Criterion
Ices has been making exclusive ices for over 80 years.
It was established by the Valenti family in Sydenham,
London in 1920 where it started as an ice cream parlour
with a fleet of vans (with chimes!) that sold around
the streets of London.
From the mid 1960s Criterion Ices started to supply
theatres, restaurants, concert halls and shipping
lines. Then, in 1996, it joined with Myatt's Countryfresh
Ices that for ten years had been making superb, traditional
ices from the cream of their dairy herd in Suffolk.
The Myatt and Valenti families thus created the Criterion
Ices business that we see today. Rod Myatt is the
creamery manager, his brother Paul is operations
manager and Jim Valenti is sales manager. The company
remains small and family focused. Just 20 people
are employed at Criterion Ices, a number of them
for many years. Their dedication is key to the continuing
success of the business and its maintenance of the
personal touch and caring attitude towards each other,
suppliers, the local community and customers.
